Let's Talk About It... Astrology

Have you ever met someone new, and you’re starting to get to know them and they suddenly ask, “what’s your astrology sign?”
Have you ever sat at a coffee shop or maybe you’re even walking somewhere and you hear a faint conversation of people talking about mercury being in retrograde, the astrology forecast for the day, or maybe they’re even talking about their new crush being a Leo and the person doesn’t know how they will mesh well with someone whose a Leo because of their own astrology sign.
These conversations happen way too often in our American culture. We’ve forgotten that astrology is divination, and that the root of it is occultic and part of the kingdom of darkness. We have packaged the occult in ways that are aesthetically pleasing to our fleshly minds, so that when astrology is presented to our faces we don’t question the harms of it anymore and think it’s okay.
Some Christians put their faith and identity into an astrology sign more than they do in God Himself, causing demonic oppression, torment, fragmented personalities, and causing generational curses and open doors to stay within their bloodline.
Astrology/divination is not something to play around with. You MUST have the fear of the Lord and a knowing of the One who reigns above all when viewing things that pertain to the kingdom of darkness, otherwise you will be like a fool and will be led astray.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight."
Buckle up and get out your Bible if you can, because there’s going to be a lot of Scripture going forward!
We have to understand that God made a covenant with the Israelites when he brought them out of Egypt and was making them a people onto Him. That’s why Moses went up to the mountain to receive the ten commandments and the law (Exodus 24).
God’s faithfulness to the Israelites was because of His promise and faithfulness to Abraham found in Genesis 15, and we even see God telling Abraham that his people were going to be afflicted for years, but God was going to deliver them and eventually bring them back to the land.
"Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions." |
When the Israelites went into the wilderness, what was happening was that God was BIRTHING a nation. Think about it. I want you to truly wrap your mind around it. A whole group of people, living in bondage and in slavery, then suddenly in ONE day, they get delivered from their oppressors and are no longer part of the nation nor the land that enslaved them for 400 years.
They are now in the wilderness and they have no laws, no commandments, and no rules to follow. All they have is just the understanding of what they lived out for the last 400 years. They have nothing that sets them together as a nation. We know of course that they weren’t actually alone; God was with them, but He was literally building them from the ground up. His desire was to make them HIS PEOPLE. Set apart for Him.
That’s why God had to give them His laws and commandments. They were to be a lighthouse onto the nations. The Israelites were entrusted with the things of God to steward them, in order that they may showcase God’s glory and goodness to the nations surrounding them and others would come and be amazed, be blessed by them, and then come and desire to worship Yahweh, the great I AM (Exodus 3:13-14).
"See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the Lord our God is to us, whenever we call upon him? And what great nation is there, that has statutes and rules so righteous as all this law that I set before you today?" |
"Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God." |
The Israelites failed to steward these laws and commandments because of sin. We see this in the Old Testament over and over again. But thanks be to God! That’s why God sent His only Son because in Christ Jesus the law and commandments were all fulfilled (Matthew 5:17). Our righteousness, that which puts us in right standing with God, comes from fully trusting in Jesus Christ and the sufficient work of the cross. It comes from our faith in Him and in Him alone (Romans 3:21-25).
Now that we have the framework that God was desiring His people to be a nation that would carry His laws and commandments, we have to understand and also know that there were surrounding nations around them that carried their own laws, morals, and ways of worshipping their own gods. Emphasis on these nations having their own ways of worshipping their gods.
I want to get this clear. There may be many spirits or entities that have certain authorities in the spiritual realm. The high ranking spirits/demons (as I personally would call them, but name doesn’t really matter) are the false gods that every other nation worships. Emphasis on false. They only take on an authority or an identity of being a “god” simply because of the worship that’s given to them by us. But there is only one ALPHA. There is only one GOD. That’s Yahweh. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The I AM who revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3. The God whom Jesus proclaimed was His Father. Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6), and Jesus is God in the flesh (John 14:9-11, John 1:1-14, John 8:58, John 10:25-30, etc.)
That’s why God gave the Israelites instructions on ways to tend to the altars that indicated their worship to Him (Exodus 20:22-26 and Leviticus 6 are some examples). He had assigned priests who would tend to them day and night. This is a spiritual principle in which altars are tended to, that I won’t get into too much here, but this wasn’t just a thing that the Israelites did.
All other nations had their own altars and specific ways to tend to the altars that appeased the gods that they would serve, along with their own priests that tended to the altars.
It’s the same thing today. There’s occultic and demonic altars tended to today by people who worship false gods and demons. Then there is the ultimate altar - Jesus Christ; the Lamb of God who was slain for the sins of the world. His blood nullifies and cancels every other demonic and occultic altar; that’s why there is power in the blood of Jesus. I would say that Hebrews 9 goes into this very well for those who want to go deeper into this.
The beautiful thing is that in Jesus Christ, in the new covenant, all who put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ are now priests. We now tend to the altar, not just in a building or in a church, but the altar that’s within our hearts. Because the dwelling place of God is with men.
"And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God." |
God desires for the altar on our hearts to never go out or lose flame for Him. That’s why we see God tell this to the Israelites in Leviticus 6:13
"Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out." |
This concept and teaching of the altar now being in us, and the ways of worship in the new covenant with Jesus now being our High Priest - Hebrews is the book I would say to go to in order to receive revelation nuggets. It would also be good to read the Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy) to dig deeper into Scripture for understanding.
We also have to understand that back then, the laws and the commandments of God were COMPLETELY different to the nations that were around them at the time. Their ways were really really wicked (think like Epstein files wicked - YES, just like that).
We see God talking about this wickedness in the following verses:
"but you shall devote them to complete destruction, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, as the Lord your God has commanded, that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominable practices that they have done for their gods, and so you sin against the Lord your God." |
“Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean, and the land became unclean, so that I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. But you shall keep my statutes and my rules and do none of these abominations, either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you (for the people of the land, who were before you, did all of these abominations, so that the land became unclean), lest the land vomit you out when you make it unclean, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. For everyone who does any of these abominations, the persons who do them shall be cut off from among their people. So keep my charge never to practice any of these abominable customs that were practiced before you, and never to make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.” |
But guess what? God was, and actually did, give these nations time to REPENT and turn to Him. In fact, He gave them about 400 years to repent of their wickedness! Don’t tell me that God isn’t patient, just, and good. We see this back in Genesis 15 and in God’s promise to Abraham. He promised the land back to them after this time period of 400 years because He was giving the Amorites time to repent! That’s why the time of their iniquity wasn’t fully done yet as the Word says.
"And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” |
How does Scripture once again confirm this characteristic and heart desire of God?
"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance". |
"The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts." |
God always gives warnings, signs, and lots of time for people to repent. But because God IS justice, it is not in His nature to keep allowing wickedness to keep on going so He MUST bring judgement when the day comes.
I know that was a lot, but I wanted to go in depth as best as I could so this article could help anyone who has questions about this and is truly wondering why God does not desire this. Not just that, but in a culture where this is so inundated in our society (and even in our churches! Lord have mercy!), it is so important for our minds to be renewed by the Word of God and not just to say “oh astrology is bad” but to truly have an understanding as to why.
Let’s now look at this verse:
"And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven. But as for you, the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are." |
See why I wanted to give context about God building up the Israelites to be His people and why it was important for them to be holy; set apart from other nations? It says here that God brought them up and took them out of Egypt, to be the people of HIS inheritance. We are God’s inheritance in Jesus Christ!
When we partake in astrology, we are actually breaking covenant with God because worshipping the sun, the moon, and the stars is idolatry. Idolatry is placing anything higher than God as your faith and trust in things. It creates idols, which are created things that now reign in our heart. We go to these idols and we start to worship them rather than God Himself.
“But I don’t WORSHIP the sun, moon, and stars. I just believe in astrology,” one might say.
No, you are worshipping them, because as soon as you come into agreement with an astrology sign and what it says about you, or another person, you have come into an agreement with a lie that takes away from your IDENTITY in God.
What you’re pretty much saying is, “I trust the sun, moon, and stars to give me identity rather than the Word of God. I trust a created thing to give me meaning, purpose, and direction rather than the One who created all things!” Astrology forecasts is the same thing. You’re trusting in the sun, moon, and stars to dictate your future trajectory rather than putting your full trust in the living God who created the heavens and the earth and who is sovereign.
The reason why God doesn’t want us to partake in astrology of any sort is because it lures us away from Him. It lures us into false and half hearted worship. God wants our fully surrendered and pure worship from our hearts. It is also an open door for us to go off and worship other false gods, as these other nations did. Astrology, stargazing, and divination were all practices and customs that other nations were doing as a way to worship and connect to their false gods. Remember how God kept telling the Israelites not to follow the practices and customs of the other nations because they were unholy and an abomination? This practice and custom was one of them, but we as a society have adopted these same practices and customs, and they're even running rampant within the church! We wonder why there has been such an attack on identity towards the younger generation in the West, and it's because of these occultic and abominable practices that we have allowed back into the culture.
His heart for us is to not follow the ways of these nations and the way that they worship and connect to their false gods, but He wants us to trust in Him, His ways, and in His Word.
Here are other Bible verses that speak against this:
"You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons make known what shall come upon you. Behold, they are like stubble; the fire consumes them; they cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. No coal for warming oneself is this, no fire to sit before!" |
Here God is speaking against those who put their faith and trust in astrologers and stargazers. Those who look at these people to give course and direction on what to do. This idolatry causes deception, spiritual blindness, and false hope.
"Hear the word that the Lord speaks to you, O house of Israel. Thus says the Lord: 'Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them, for the customs of the peoples are vanity. A tree from the forest is cut down and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.'" |
Once again, God telling His people… do not learn the way of the nations. The other nations that would look up at the planets, the stars, and the moon, and their mood and decisions (sometimes even national decisions by leaders) would be affected by this. God calls it vanity and how this type of worship is all in vain. It ends in nothing. When you read the rest of this chapter (Jeremiah 10) it goes into talking about idols. Idols that people would carve up and make, and then give these idols worship. Astrology is part of that because it is worshipping a creaTION rather than the creaTOR.
We see this understanding in Romans:
"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen." |

Our wicked and led astray hearts would rather worship a created thing, rather than God Himself who created all things. God knew that the sin within us entices us to do this, which is why he warned the Israelites against following these customs.
But thanks be to God for His son Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth, and the life and who we now follow as our Good Shepherd to lead us to unto paths of righteousness! Hallelujah!
Have you ever wondered why those 12 zodiac signs have personalities and traits? They even have names assigned to them. They’re all high ranking demons in the spiritual realm.
As soon as you come into agreement with your zodiac sign, what happens is that you are INFLUENCED by their character - hence why they have character traits. God doesn’t want you to be INFLUENCED by things from the kingdom of darkness because He is in the kingdom of light, in which you are called to walk in. He wants you influenced by His WORD, because His Word is truth.
If you are a believer in Christ and have partaken in astrology, repent of this. Renounce your involvement, participation, and agreement in it, and ask God for forgiveness and the blood of Jesus to cleanse you and wash you.
That’s why astrology signs have “good” traits and “bad” traits. They’re curses over you. That’s why a birth chart reading can say that you might always have trouble with finances or being in relationships because it’s the way your personality is wired, or it’s because the sun, moon, and the stars aligned at the time of your birth says so. These are all curses and they direct you off of God's intended path for you, the days that He knew for you before you were even born and are written in His book.
"Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them." |
Astrology may have some “good” words in it about your life. It may talk about the “good” parts of your personality. But that’s what satan does. He disguises himself as an angel of light.
"And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." |
He gives you some “good”, but there’s always a transaction involved for that “good.” If you receive the good, you’ll also receive the bad at some point.
It’s a fight for your soul.
You are not prideful, you are not emotional, you are not lustful, you are not a deceiver, you are not selfish, you are not manipulative, you are not a backstabber, and so on.
You were made in the IMAGE OF GOD (Genesis 1:26-27), and God carries NONE of those characteristic traits.
Because of sin, our identity has become distorted and misaligned. That’s why in Jesus Christ we get RESTORED back to our true identity as a son and as a daughter. How it was always supposed to be when we were in the Garden of Eden.
The devil will use anything he can to get your identity away from what God says about you because you know what the earth is actually waiting for? The Bible says the earth is GROANING for this to be birthed, desperately waiting for this, and the devil hates this because then this means it’s a sign that his time is almost up. He will do anything to keep you from realizing your identity in Christ, and actually walking it in FULLNESS and MATURITY. Romans 8:19-22 "For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now."
Beloved, your identity was always meant to be restored in Jesus Christ as a SON and a DAUGHTER of the God who created all the heavens and the earth, and the one who knew you before you were even formed (Jeremiah 1:5) and knitted you in your mother’s womb.
That’s why Jesus is called the Son of God and walked as a Son. That’s why when Jesus was baptized God said, “THIS. IS. MY. SON, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:13-17) (emphasis added).
And the Bible says we are to be conformed into the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29), and He walked with a deep knowing who His Father was.
“And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?” |
Do you know this truth? Do you DEEPLY know it?
Get rid of the lies and the false identities. Renounce your involvement with what astrology has told you about yourself.
A child listens to their parents. They don’t listen to a stranger, in fact they run away from a stranger!
Who are you listening to?
Who is the one parenting you?
Who do you BELONG to?
